Shear studs are welded through metal deck onto supporting steel beams in three distinct configurations. Centered deck details stagger studs and require aligning the stud centerline with the beam centerline on beams lighter than seventeen pounds per foot, removing metal deck stiffening ribs as needed. Aligned deck details maintain a one inch minimum clearance. Offset deck details split the deck full length of the beam, requiring an eighteen gauge minimum continuous closure or a new strip of deck, with specified dimensional clearances.
