An open web steel joist is supported by a hollow structural section 6x6x1/4-inch ladder column using 3x3x1/4-inch angles on each side. Two L3x3x1/4-inch angle braces provide lateral stability beneath the metal roof deck. A three-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures the connection, leaving the column explicitly left unwelded to the angle.
