Three-quarter-inch diameter studs are welded to the top flange of a structural steel beam to develop composite action with the slab. Single stud rows maintain a minimum spacing of four and one-half inches and a maximum spacing of one foot zero inches, centered on the beam centerline. Double stud rows maintain the same longitudinal spacing with a three-inch transverse spacing between studs, placed one and one-half inches from the beam edges. Studs are spaced equally along the beam unless noted otherwise.
