A wide flange beam connects to steel plates including side plates, a back plate, and a bottom plate. Self-drilling screws are spaced at one and a half inches stagger typically on each side plate, with pre-drilled holes in the plates. Top and bottom flanges are welded with specified sizes. A one-eighth inch gap is provided between the sides of the beam and the steel plates. The beam is chamfered or rabbeted at welds to the bottom plate a maximum of the weld size plus one-eighth inch.
