A steel beam connects to a supporting wide-flange column using a one-half-inch thick shear plate welded to the column flange with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld typical. The beam web fastens to the shear tab using three seven-eighths-inch diameter high-strength bolts spaced at four inches vertically, with a two-inch edge distance to the top bolt.
