Steel beam connections frame into wide-flange column webs and hollow structural section columns using bolted shear plates and horizontal plates. The connection features a shear plate welded to the column and bolted to the beam web with two rows of bolts, sized per schedule. Horizontal plates are welded to the top and bottom flanges with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds typical. A one-half inch cap plate is welded on four sides at the top condition. A three-inch clearance is maintained unless noted otherwise, with a minimum bolt edge distance of two times the bolt diameter.
