An incoming steel beam connects to the web of a supporting column flange via a welded shear plate and four bolts. A full-height stiffener plate matches the thickness and weld of the shear plate, while additional full-height stiffeners are provided on the column web where indicated on the plan. The shear plate width matches the incoming beam flange width or six inches minimum, whichever is greater. Shear plate welds and fasteners are sized per the typical beam connection schedule.
