A buckling restrained brace connects to a steel column and W18x55 beam using a five-eighths-inch thick gusset plate. The column receives five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds securing the gusset plate to both the flange and the beam web. Transverse stiffener plates three-eighths-inch thick are welded to the top and bottom on near side and far side at the column. A beam splice features a one-half-inch Grade 50 plate with two rows of A325 slip-critical bolts, complemented by complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges. The buckling restrained brace attaches with bolts per the manufacturer requirements.
