An HSS post is welded to a steel base plate with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld on all sides, with finished bearing surfaces provided at the column end and plate top. The base plate is secured to a concrete footing or floor using two three-quarter inch diameter F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods with heavy hex nuts or rod heads. A one inch minimum non-shrink grout layer is placed beneath the base plate, maintaining a one and one-half inch minimum rod projection above the grout.
