A steel beam bears directly onto a steel cap plate attached to the top of a steel column, sized per plan and schedule. A steel cap plate is welded to the column with a quarter-inch fillet weld on three sides. Beam web stiffeners or beam web connection plates are welded to each side of the steel beam web with quarter-inch fillet welds.
