This structural steel column splice detail features complete joint penetration welds with double-bevel grooves on the column ends per AISC Chapter M. An erection plate sized per the contractor is fastened with seven-eighths-inch-diameter A490N erection bolts arranged in a symmetric pattern. The erection plate and bolts may serve as a backing plate and remain in place following testing. Column end preparation must follow AISC Chapter M guidelines relative to the frame elevation centerline.
