A concrete slab-on-grade features a downward thickening section centered on a buried pipe or conduit. The concrete slab is reinforced with either 4x4 - W1.4xW1.4 welded wire fabric or number four reinforcing bars spaced at twelve inches on center. The thickened trench extends downward with a minimum six inches clearance below the conduit and a minimum twelve inches horizontal width centered on the penetration. The subgrade consists of firm undisturbed soil or compacted fill.
