A concrete masonry unit wall features a recessed opening detailed in both section and plan views. Vertical reinforcing bars run full height at each side of the recess inside the masonry cells, terminating with standard 180-degree hooks. Two number 5 horizontal bars are placed below the recess and extend forty-eight bar diameters past each side of the opening. Lintel reinforcement above the recess is sized per the masonry lintel schedule.
