A steel beam bears directly onto a steel column with an intervening bearing plate sized to match the beam flange width and a minimum thickness of one-half inch. The connection is secured with four seven-eighths inch diameter bolts and welded with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds. A five-sixteenths inch stiffener plate is welded to the web on each side, aligned with the column centerline and maintaining a dimension k from the top of steel. An optional shear tab is provided where required by design.
