An open web steel joist with rod web connects to the web of a moment frame steel beam. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate is welded to the beam web to coordinate the connection with the joist supplier. A web plate provided by the joist supplier connects the joist to the beam, secured with five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. Metal roof deck spans continuously above the top chords of the framing members.
