A steel beam at the upper roof frames into a hollow structural section column using a three-eighths-inch shear plate slotted through the column. A steel beam at the mid roof connects similarly on the opposite side with a four-inch dimension spacing. One-quarter-inch fillet welds secure the shear plate and beam connections. Steel roof decks bear across the top flanges of both framing members.
