A C4x5.4 structural steel channel frames a roof deck opening and extends to fasten across three ribs beyond the opening on each side. The channel member spans parallel to the purlins or trusses supporting the metal roof deck. The C4 channel is omitted if dimension "L" is less than 12 inches. Ribs on each side of the opening maintain a maximum clear span of 2 feet zero inches.
