A hollow structural section stub column is mounted to a steel beam using a 3/8 inch by 7 1/2 inch by 1 foot 1 inch plate secured with four 3/4 inch diameter bolts. The beam web is reinforced with 3/8 inch thick stiffener plates on the near side and far side, which are attached to the beam with 1/4 inch fillet welds. These stiffeners extend to three-quarters of the beam depth. The beam size is determined per the structural plan.
