A buckling-restrained brace connects to a gusset plate welded to a structural steel column base plate. The gusset plate features a thickness-dependent support plate measuring one-half inch minimum for plates under two inches and three-quarters inch minimum for plates two inches and thicker. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch size secure the gusset to the stiffener on three sides top and bottom typically. A work point is established at the top of the base plate with specified approximate horizontal and vertical dimensions. Additional layout procedures for the buckling-restrained brace and gusset are referenced on companion details.
