A six-inch extra-strong galvanized steel pipe column extends upward through a roof assembly and is supported by a structural steel beam via a three-quarter-inch by eight-inch by eight-inch bearing plate welded with quarter-inch fillet welds. The pipe column features a bolted splice connection made with two half-inch galvanized plates secured by four seven-eighth-inch diameter machine bolts and welded with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A full-depth shear tab is provided for a perpendicular beam per sheet S5.01.
