A W12 structural steel shape serves as the waler, reinforced internally with a one-half-inch stiffener plate. An eight-inch diameter standard steel pipe connects the waler to the flange of the soldier pile per schedule. A five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld secures the pipe strut to the structural members.
