A concrete column ties into a concrete footing with vertical reinforcing dowels extending upward to match the column above. A concrete slab-on-grade isolates from the column through a blockout and an expansion joint filler material with a control joint. An exterior slab or grade sits at a specified dimension above the footing, adjacent to a concrete curb beyond. A thirty-inch minimum dimension marks the depth from the exterior grade to the bottom of the footing.
