This assembly connects wide-flange beams to a steel column using shear tabs welded to the column web and beam webs. A 50 ksi steel cap plate is welded to the column web with 5/16-inch fillet welds on both sides, with the plate thickness matching the greater beam flange thickness plus 1/8 inch. A 1/2-inch by 5-inch by 1-foot stiffener plate is installed within the column web, supported by a 3/4-inch by 6-1/8-inch girder bearing plate. Shear tabs are welded to the beam webs with 7/16-inch fillet welds on three sides, with specific requirements for beams designated as special frame-related structural components on the plan. A complete joint penetration weld is specified at the beam-to-column interface.
