An HSS beam connects directly to an HSS column of the same width using top and bottom plates matching the beam thickness with a minimum size of five-sixteenths of an inch. The connection is welded at the top and bottom flanges with fillet welds of a minimum five-sixteenths inch size. The web connection uses matching beam thickness with a minimum five-sixteenths inch weld.
