A steel beam frames into the web of a shallower supporting steel beam with a coped top flange to match the top-of-steel elevation. The framing connection utilizes a single-plate shear tab welded to the supporting beam web and bolted to the supported beam web with typical bolt spacings of three inches on center. The typical condition maintains a one and three-quarter inch minimum and three-quarter inch maximum setback, while the special condition allows up to six inches from the beam centerline and a one-inch maximum setback. Coping dimensions include a one-and-one-half-inch vertical clearance at the top flange cut. Bolt sizes, numbers, and types are referenced to sheet S7.02.
