This moment connection joins a wide flange beam to a column using complete joint penetration welds with backgouging at both the top and bottom flanges. The beam web is attached to the column with 5/8-inch fillet welds sized to the beam web thickness. A stiffener plate is provided at the beam flange locations, with a thickness equal to the greater of 3/8-inch or the beam web thickness. This stiffener plate is secured to the column flange with 5/8-inch fillet welds.
