Metal deck openings are reinforced with sixteen-gauge sheet steel secured by number ten self-drilling screw fasteners or one-half-inch diameter arc plug welds to each deck flute at a maximum spacing of eight inches. Each deck rib receives two number ten self-drilling screw fasteners over channel members below, with a minimum of three deck flutes extending on each side of the opening. Channel framing is not required when the opening is within one foot six inches of an adjacent beam.
