A steel beam connects to a hollow structural section column through a welded moment connection. Web stiffener plates matching the column wall thickness, with a three-eighths inch minimum, are provided on each side. The beam web connects to the column with a full depth partial joint penetration weld on three sides typically. The beam flanges weld to the column using welds specified per plan.
