A steel beam is supported by a steel column concealed within a double wood stud partition and tied together with steel side plates and machine bolts. The steel beam carries a 4x nailer and plywood sheathing beneath continuous double 2x6 top plates. Wood studs spaced at 16 inches on center feature 6x6 blocking across a minimum of 3 bays and are fastened with 16d nails at 12 inches on center. Plates measuring 3 inches wide by 1/4 inch thick are secured on each side with three 3/4-inch diameter machine bolts, utilizing a typical 1/4-inch fillet weld.
