An interior concrete spread footing supports a wide-flange steel gravity column anchored via a base plate. The top surface of the concrete footing is roughened to one-quarter inch amplitude beneath the column base plate. A one-inch thick polyfoam wrap surrounds each column through the concrete slab-on-grade depth, with the top half-inch removed after twenty-eight-day strength and filled with sealant. Slab dowels match the slab reinforcement and include standard hooks if less than development length. This anchorage detail applies to non-moment-frame columns only.
