Continuous plates measuring three-eighths by three and a half inches connect along the chord with chord plate screws spaced eight inches typical and two inches minimum. A three by one-half by one-foot two-inch splice plate is secured with three seven-eighths inch diameter machine bolts, featuring a notch block at the bolts and four-inch blocking. Plates are to be installed in lengths as long as practical with the splice location at the contractor's option. The contractor has the option to field weld splices in lieu of machine bolts with a quarter-inch fillet weld.
