An HSS column with a bevel base sits atop an existing wide-flange beam, welded with a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld and resting on an existing three-inch metal deck cut away for column installation. A quarter-inch by one-foot by one-foot plate caps the column, welded with a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld. An HSS beam is welded to the top plate with a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld. Existing perpendicular wide-flange beams and connections occur as needed.
