Steel bar joists bear on the top flange of a structural steel girder, spaced with a quarter-inch gap and secured with splice plates of varying dimensions including a half-inch by four-inch by one-foot-two-inch long splice plate for detail 7A and a three-eighths-inch by three-inch by zero-foot-ten-inch long splice plate for detail 7. The assembly includes wood nailers and sheathing above the joists, with attachment welds specified as per Steel Joist Institute standards. A welded girder brace is provided below as required by the manufacturer to stabilize the girder. Fillet welds of three-sixteenths inch at four inches and one-quarter inch at six inches secure the connection elements.
