A cross-laminated timber deck is fastened from below to a square steel plate measuring 10mm thick by 360mm by 360mm, with specific fastener schedules determined by engineering plans. The base plate rests on an HSS 178x178x9.5 hollow structural section sleeve that slips over an HSS 152x152 steel column. The sleeve is left unconnected to the column to allow for 25mm of vertical deflection, maintaining a 50mm clearance gap as indicated. The assembly accommodates lateral loads of up to 45kN while preventing unintended vertical load transfer into the column.
