A bottom flange brace connection utilizes structural tee or angle members. Angle kickers sized L3x3x1/4 for lengths up to seven feet or L4x4x5/16 for lengths between seven and eleven feet tie into the bottom flange of the supporting beam. A typical three-eighths-inch gusset plate connects the bracing elements, secured with five-eighths-inch diameter fasteners at six inches on center. A three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld is applied typically at the connection joints. Steel joists are designed for an additional service level seismic vertical load of 2.0 kips up and down at each bracing location.
