A steel beam frames into a structural steel column utilizing a one-half-inch shear tab welded to the column flange with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds featuring one-inch returns. Three one-half-inch erection bolts secure the beam web to the shear tab. A cap plate and continuous plate are specified at the top and bottom flanges, sized one-eighth-inch thicker than the larger beam flange at fifty ksi yield strength. Complete joint penetration welds connect the steel tube to the plate. Web stiffeners are provided on each side of the beam web where required.
