This structural steel ridge beam splice detail features complete joint penetration welds at both the top and bottom flanges and the web. A backing bar is used typically at the flange joints. A simple shear connection is incorporated into the web to transfer gravity loads across the splice. The configuration provides continuous moment and shear transfer between the adjoining beam segments at the roof ridge.
