A concrete slab over metal deck bears on a wide flange steel beam with a minimum bearing width of two inches. A three-eighths-inch continuous bent plate edge closure is welded to the beam flange with quarter-inch welds at four to twelve inches on center, shop or field at the contractor's option, and anchored with half-inch diameter by two-foot long deformed bar anchors at twelve inches on center. Diaphragm reinforcement consists of two minimum number five bars where not otherwise indicated on plan. The metal deck spans in the opposite direction at similar conditions, and a lap splice is provided at the center line of the beam.
