This assembly features a one-inch thick cap plate atop a wide-flange column, with wide-flange beams connected to the column web via complete joint penetration welds with backgouging. A grating support plate is welded to the beam flange on both the near side and far side with a minimum one and one-half inch bearing. When grating is present, it is secured using six bolts through the cap plate, with a twelve-gauge cover plate field-welded to the grating. The bolt pattern utilizes a common gauge with three rows shown for reference, spaced at three inches on center. The connection accommodates variable flange plate thicknesses and widths as specified by the project requirements.
