A gravity column base plate connection for a hollow structural section column bears on a concrete footing. The hollow structural section column is welded to the base plate with a 5/16-inch fillet weld around the perimeter. The base plate is secured by four 1-inch diameter ASTM F1554 Grade 55 anchor rods passing through standard oversized holes with 3-inch by 3-inch by 3/8-inch plate washers and tight double nuts with washers typically matching sizes at the base plate. A 1-inch minimum to 2-inch maximum layer of non-shrink grout is provided beneath the base plate over the top of the footing. A base plate schedule provides dimensions for various column sizes including HSS4X4, HSS6X6, and HSS7.500.
