This structural connection features a vertical hollow structural section column of size HSS8x8 joined with diagonal hollow structural section braces of size HSS6x6 and HSS9x6. A half-inch thick by fourteen-inch wide gusset plate is fastened to an existing glued-laminated timber beam using four five-eighths inch diameter by ten-inch long lag screws with two-inch, four-inch, and two-inch spacing increments. A half-inch thick by six-inch wide splice plate is welded to the members with three-eighths inch fillet welds and partial joint penetration welds typical at six inches on center. The diagonal braces connect with quarter-inch fillet welds spaced at six to twelve inches. An existing four-by purlin and an angle measuring four by three inches referenced on sheet 8.1P are also tied into the assembly.
