A circular penetration is cut through the web of a wide flange beam supporting a concrete slab over metal deck. Top and bottom reinforcing plates are welded to each side of the web above and below the opening, sized per schedule with a minimum clearance of 0.15 times the diameter. Two additional shear studs per foot are provided over the length of the opening. The beam connects to a supporting member via a bolted connection at the web.
