Steel beams frame into a continuous steel column utilizing complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges. A shear plate welded to the column web secures the beam web with three seven-eighths inch diameter erection bolts, reduced to two bolts for W8 or W10 framing members. The shear plate thickness equals the beam web thickness plus one-eighth of an inch. Beam stiffener plates sized at the greater beam flange thickness plus one-eighth of an inch with fifty KSI steel are welded to the column opposite the beam flanges. Five-sixteenth inch fillet welds are applied around three sides of the connection plates. Weld access holes are provided at the beam web and flange intersections.
