A steel column connects to a concrete foundation via a base plate and cast-in-place anchor bolts. The finished column end and base plate are fabricated per American Institute of Steel Construction standards, with member sizes sized per the structural column schedule. Non-shrink grout fills the space beneath the base plate, maintaining a one-and-a-half-inch clearance above the top of the concrete. The contractor must hold the base plate rigidly in place during the grouting process.
