Openings in concrete-filled steel decks up to two feet maximum width are framed with supplementary reinforcing bars placed around the perimeter. Two number four bars are placed on each side as shown and two number four bars span full span per section A-A. The block-out is formed using styrofoam before the concrete pour, and the steel deck is cut after the concrete fill reaches design strength. Openings less than six inches require no reinforcing.
