A wide flange beam moment connection frames into a hollow structural section column. The beam flanges feature complete joint penetration welds with one-inch returns and weld access holes designed per AISC 360 standards. Fifty KSI cap plates and continuity plates match the thickness of the thickest welded beam flange plus one-eighth inch and equal the greater width of the column or flange. A structural tee section acts as a shear connection, secured with two seven-eighths inch diameter erection bolts for standard beams or three bolts for W18 shapes and larger. The stem of the structural tee is sized to the beam web thickness plus one-eighth inch, with a flange width of four inches minimum. Fillet welds connect the tee flange and stem based on specified plate thickness reductions.
