This assembly features a steel pipe or hollow structural section column anchored to a concrete footing via a base plate. The connection utilizes four 3/4-inch diameter headed anchor bolts with nuts and washers, each requiring a minimum of 8 inches of embedment. A leveling nut is provided at each anchor bolt to adjust the base plate elevation. A 1 1/2-inch layer of non-shrink grout is placed beneath the base plate within a concrete blockout. The base plate is welded to the column with a 1/4-inch fillet weld, with a 5/16-inch fillet weld required for base plates thicker than 3/4 inch. The surrounding concrete slab is separated from the footing by an isolation joint.
