Steel beam-to-column connections frame into a hollow structural section column per plan specifications. The structural connection utilizes a plate sized to the beam depth minus one inch with five-sixteenths inch minimum thickness, secured with two three-quarter inch diameter ASTM A307 through bolts in horizontal short slotted holes on each side. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch size are specified typically at the top and bottom of the plate to the column, with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds typically at corners. A maximum clearance of one-half inch is maintained between the column and beams, with typical clearances of one and one-half inches.
