A structural steel tube beam connects to a vertical post per plan using a half-inch thick cap plate welded with a partial joint penetration weld and quarter-inch fillet welds. A one-inch diameter A325-N bolt secures the internal connection plate assembly within the four-inch typical dimension. A quarter-inch fillet weld connects each plate at the joints as detailed in section A-A.
