A channel beam connects to a hollow structural section column using a welded plate and three bolts. The connection utilizes a five-sixteenths by five-inch by nine-inch plate welded to the column with a quarter-inch fillet weld. Three three-quarter-inch-diameter A325-N bolts secure the beam web to the plate with standard three-inch vertical spacing. A half-inch gap is maintained between the beam end and the column face.
